Informed Consent & Confidentiality

Your safety as a client of Alaska Center for Counseling is of the utmost importance.

Informed Consent

At your first session, your therapist will provide a professional disclosure that describes confidentiality and the limits to confidentiality in the therapy process. Notwithstanding the exceptions to confidentiality described here, those individuals who have the legal capacity to give informed consent to treatment are entitled to a clinical summary of treatment. Any information about the treatment process is held strictly confidential. Inquiries for progress in treatment or other information are declined and the therapist will communicate that he / she cannot confirm or deny that treatment was provided.

Limits to Confidentiality

In compliance with Alaska Law, counselors at the Alaska Center for Counseling are mandatory reporters. We cannot hold confidential information under the following circumstances:
  • Threat of physical harm to self
  • Threat of physical harm to others
  • Threat of past / present physical harm to children or incapacitated adults
  • Disclosure of criminal behavior involving harm to another individual
  • Information solicited by subpoena that constitutes a court order (subpoenas from legal personnel that do not constitute a court order are refused)
